Experience as a learner of Pure Mind Buddhism (Trải nghiệm của người học trò học yoga Thanh Trí)

Experience as a learner of Pure Mind Buddhism

Our Reverend Holy Guru

I bow before your lotus feet.

Om Mani Padme Hum

Gurujee, I am happy to narrate my personal experiences after becoming a learner of Pure Mind Buddhism. Though it is difficult for me to incorporate all the changes occurred in me, slowly and stealthily, in minute detail as plethora of changes take place every day owing to the change of perspective, place, preaching, people and the mental programming. I was at fix what to write and what not to write. Pondering on the problem in hand I slept. By 06 A M in the morning it was my morning walk time. It was dark but the routine had to be followed. My inner, sweater, blazer, muffler, cap and woolen pant were sufficient to ward off the chilly weather still I was shivering. After crossing about one Kilometer, some heat was generated in the body, and I was feeling better and started enjoying the walk, but out of sudden a pathetic scene appeared. I found a few hutments wherein the slum dwellers sleeping in a very small space along with their small poorly clothed children. In fact nomads and the down trodden poor people had constructed small straw thatched clay hutments in the open sky near the pond to live in and ward off themselves from the  the fog, fume and cold winds in the night. Even laden with a lot of warm woolen clothes and kinetic energy emerged of the fast and frisk walk but the spark of shivering jerked my whole body by the sight of the plight and perilous conditions of the poor slum dwellers in the snowy cold winter morning.  The empathy based sympathy emerged in me, which is again the impact of his practical life and preaching of our Holy Guru.  I did pray to the Buddha for the for taking away their agony, very instinctively as I have been preached by Guru to pray for the wellbeing of all the sentient beings and that has been translated into my habit. Thanks to our Holy Guru.

Thanh Tri Master – Thinley Nguyen Thanh

I am basically a Buddhist and a firm believer in the Law of Dependent Origination. Out of nothing nothing comes and everything in this world are interconnected are the fundamental tenets of Buddhism oozes out of the second Noble Truth. While going through the Jatakas I found that the Buddha had taken several births prior to his Enlightenment. In all his births there is a systematic evolution in thought, belief, knowledge and physic. He had several births in animals, birds, trees and human form and all his births marks a systematic growth in his physic and psyche till He finally attains the Arahant hood. Secondly, his all stories are interlinked, as what happened with him or his fellow beings in any birth are the results of the good or bad deeds of their previous births. And thus, everyone in this universe is enjoying the merits of his past Karmas. Every meeting and separation, pleasure and pain or coming into relation of father and son, husband and wife, brother and sister as well as friend and foe are pre destined because of our own deeds, vice or virtue.

Knowing it well that the tragedy and comedy of these nomadic family is related to their past birth and their previous karmas. The Buddha has once said, “Life is drops of tear.” But He also said that the tears can be wiped out. In the same way our Holy Guru also said we can wipe out the others sufferings too through our pray and personal merits earned through our good deeds. This can be seen in his personal life. In his several shared lessons and in his personal life we find that he takes more takes more care of his disciples and their family members. He travelled a remote distance to preach as well to initiate to his disciple or his parent as their financial condition were not good. When his disciples depart from his place he comes to see them off and pray for their safe journey. Owing to his compassion our journey becomes safe and sound.  I am grateful for his fatherly affection for me and all his people spread far and wide on this globe. He is, in fact, the embodiment of Mahakaruna of the Buddha who is continuously doing efforts to arouse in us the Bodhichitta ideal.

It is a well-known fact that we are the outcome of our thoughts. (Chetanaham Bhikkhave kammam Badami). Dhammapada says mind is the fountain head of all good and bad actions as well as their consequential results. If one speaks or acts with polluted mind then pain and afflictions follow one  as the wheel follow that ox pulling the cart. If one’s acts and speech are the outcome of the pure and pious thoughts, happiness is bound to follow him like the shadow of the person that never leaves him. In our everyday life we face several unwanted and unpleasant situations that make us perturbed, blur our vision and lead us to a wrong direction. Due to situational circumstances and odd events one is perplexed.  The very simple thing is many such circumstances occur where one is forced to think that “he hurt me, he abused me, he robbed me and so on’. If I happen to brood on these or harbour such thoughts pain will afflict and unceasing hatred will emerge and make me imbalance and mentally tormented. Earlier such situations have created turmoil in my life and life appeared to me moving like a pendulum between pain and ennui. Though, these days uncertainty and upheavals have become the regular feature of my life. I am running from pillar to post for family, domestic and academic works besides my regular teaching duties. Often stealing time from these assignments becomes so difficult that my primary duties are ignored and I have to face untoward situations, from my friend, foes, family members and the head of the institution, including their reproach. But regular reading of the articles, shared by our Guru, functions as the shock absorber amidst the upheavals of the path of my life. It keeps my mind less perturbed and generate insight to meet with the situations in a calm and quite way. It is a fact that I too am perturbed and incur mental tension as well as physical fatigue, but the repeated reading of the prepares us to face the present and forthcoming situations, whatever difficult it is.

There are two types of consciousness; 1, Theoretic consciousness and 2, Practical consciousness. Though in principle there is no difference between the two, but in actual experience there is a big gap between the two. In practical consciousness the theory is actualized in our works. It is translated into habit and in the daily routine of everyday life. In theory we see only the form, the basic principles but in practice these are reified and take concrete shape in our deeds. In theory we see only the form of the principle but in practice these are actualized. To believe in a precept or a theory and to incorporate in actual life are two different things. In theory it is in a potency form, possibilities are there of getting them actualized. But in the latter it is translated into actuality. The concretization of a theory in practice and the habit is practical conscious. Theoretically our precept is ‘to speak the true’. It is our theoretic consciousness. But in actual life we speak false most of the times for our petty need and greed. But when one sticks on this precept very strictly and put even life on stake for the true speech ignoring the benefit whatever great it is, it is because of our practical consciousness. In practical consciousness the theory is instilled in the mind. This never allows the mind and the body to act differently, they act in consonance. Such person’s thought and practice go hand in hand. What he thinks he does and what he does, he thinks.

The Pure Mind Buddhism was evolved and developed by our reverend Guru is to bridge the gap of thought and practice, to unify the theoretic consciousness and the Practical conscious in our taste, temperament and habit as well as for the redemption of human suffering here and here after. But these things are been taught by my Guru in a very easy and simple method that one cannot feel pressure.  We are simple asked to think for the sublimation and wellbeing of sentient being. For instance we are, the disciples of our Guru and related to the Tantra House are asked to pray for the wellbeing for all the sentient beings before initiation of any work. For instance we say before drinking water “may all sentient beings drink the Buddha Amrit”. Before eating, “May all sentient beings have the Buddha food”, and so on. Primarily it looked like rituals but slowly and stealthily it started instilling compassionate feeling in our nature. While moving we, all the disciples of the Tantra house, are asked to chant in the mind, “Om Mni Padme Hum.”  This makes us to live in the present neither in the past nor in the future. This curtails all the anxieties, of the past as well of the future. It is a fact that due to some restrains and constrains I could not follow the Guru’s instruction entirely though in principle and partially. But the uniqueness of Guru’s method is that it works even if we observe it very little. And is so with me. It has helped me astoundingly in curtailing my agony and easing my problems of life. For last 08 months I am running from pillar to post for my academic and domestic works. It would have created turmoil in my life. But even in this age I am performing all my duties without being perturbed and incurring less physical strain. This is all because of Gurus grace, reading his lessons, commenting on them and following the guru’s instructions, though partially, that he gave me at the Tantra house while my brief stay. I always aspire to be in his admonition as it generates in me a subtle ray of energy and inspiration that makes me fresh all the time. It all because of his pure, positive and compassionate radiation that his mind and body emits all the times, which makes a person calm, quit and happy because of his enlightenment and Bodhichitta attainment.  I feel pride without any prejudice for being his disciple.

Last but not the least, I have learnt how to write the impressive comments and academic papers after reading the articles shared by our Guru and sent by my friend. Earlier my writings were dry and non-interesting even if they were thematically sound. When I read three or four articles of Chanhtuduy .com, I gave my articles a different flevour. I imbibed Guru’s style of writing. Now the ideas instead of coming out of my mind got expressed in the article. They are related to my heart and the existing situations. The situation born expression of my hart attracted the readers. It made my papers popular. I visited several academic institutions in and around India in connection with seminar, symposium, workshop and conferences. The Guru’s style of writing and speech made my presentation lucrative impressive. I am grateful to my Holy Guru for his wonderful contribution in my writing and speech. I am thankful to my friend for getting connecting to the Guru.

With these words I bow my head to the lotus feet of my Guru. May the entire sentient beings bee happy and attain the Buddha nature. Long live our Guru along with his concert for the welfare of many and the happiness of many.

Om Mani Padme Hum

Reverently to my Holy Guru

With profound regards

  5. Dear Tantra Sutradaka,

I am delighted to read your article sharing about your experience as well as your thoughts after some time of practicing Yoga Thanh Tri (Pure Mind Yoga). The change of your mind and how it effects your life (not as much pressure, the negative thoughts as  previous time) is a proof of effectiveness of Yoga Thanh Tri which evolved and developed by Holy Guru. Thanks to Holy Guru’s compassion and wisdom, people who are living busy lives like you and me have chances to accumulate merit and wisdom what will be used as a property to go to Buddha’s land in the future.  Happily, now you even could write the impressive comments as well as more interesting articles after reading and learning from Holy Guru’s writing style. You may know that there are not much gurus can preach Buddhism well, not much gurus can write about Buddhism well, and I wonder how many gurus in this world who both preach and write well. So luckily we are disciples of such a great Guru.

Thank you for your sharing, may you and your family have a good health.

May our Holy Guru and his consort live long for benefits of sentient beings
May all sentient beings achieve happiness of Buddhahood
    Om  ah hum.

  6. Dear Tantra Sutradaka

I have read your sharing with great amusement and only wish it were longer. I am really touched with your genuine thought and feeling about the Guru and the transformation of your mind since you have followed the lotus step of the Guru. In your sharing, I saw a Guru of altruism, compassion and wisdom, who always take care of disciples, helping them “wipe out tears” run from upheavals of their life to move firmly on the path of liberation. The non-stop Bodhicitta endeavor of Guru has ignited the flame of inspiration among followers and disciples and I am glad to know you are among them. I am delighted to know that reading Guru’s articles regularly have helped you keep your mind less perturbed and generate insight to deal with the problems in a calm and quiet way; be willing to face the present and forthcoming situtations, whatever difficult it may be.

I agree with you that this achievement, apart from the self-endeavor of the practitioner, is thanks to the practicality of Thanh Tri Yoga invented by Guru. It narrows the gap between thought and practice, understandable, practicable and put no pressure on the learner. The uniqueness of his method is that it still works even if we observe it little.

I am also glad to know the academic and specially practical writing style of Guru oriented by the sense of “Dharma is life, life is Dharma” has laid strong impression on you and you have flexibly applied it in your presentations and writings. Congratulations for your successful presentations at conferences or seminars thanks to getting connected to the Guru. We are so proud to be the disciples of Guru for having chances to access essential practices to gain happiness in mundane life as well as a sublimation in spiritual life. We vow to follow the Guru’s steps from now till the ultimate enlightenment. Thank you for this interesting and meaningful sharing.

May Guru and his consort live long for the sake of sentient beings.

May Tantra Sutradaka and your family have health and obtain new achievements on the path of cultivation.

May all sentient beings be surrounded by the blessings of the Trinity

  8. Dear Tantra Sutradaka!

I am delighted to read your article. It is always interesting for me to hear about experience as well as achievement of Vaijar brothers in practicing Pure Mind Yoga.

I am happy when hearing that thanks to practicing our Guru’s methods, your life get more and more easier although in fact, the difficulties are present themselves. I find that under Guru’s teaching, all of us understand what happening to us are the results of the deeds in the past, so we can accept them naturally and transform them by practicing Dharma at present, and thus will we get good results in the future.

I am impressed by two types of consciousness that you mentioned in this article, too, especially your comparing them to the Pure Mind Buddhism that was evolved and developed by our reverend Guru.

Finally, I am moved with your sharing: “I always aspire to be in his admonition as it generates in me a subtle ray of energy and inspiration that make me fresh all the time. It all because of his pure, positive and compassionate radiation that his mind and body emits all the times, which makes a person calm, quit and happy because of his enlightenment and Bodhicitta attainment. 9. Mật Từ says:

    Dear Tantra Sutradaka,

I am really happy to know your mind have been transformed positively after receiving Dharma’s wisdom from Guru’s teachings. To be honest, I had struggled a lot reading your previous articles as they were mostly focused on the literatures, theories while lacking of practical illustration. I did spend more than double the amount of time to concentrate catching the main ideas of the work, but for this article, I was totally attracted as there are lively stories described your own experience by familiar words. It is indeed the interpretation of “Life is Dharma, Dharma is life” spirit that our Guru has taught us. I became sympathy with your sharing that your writing has been improved after reading Guru’s articles, I believe that is not only your own experience but also every disciple’s in Song Nguyen Tantra House. Guru’s articles are always in a balance of good content and logical organization which are supported by Dharma teachings, practical stories and lively pictures. Because of maintaining a habit of reading Guru’s articles, we have gradually been trained to our speaking and writing skills. I believe that is the reason why many of us who are already over the age of going to school, but still are very good at those tasks. I am also impressed by two types of consciousness which are theoretical consciousness and practical consciousness. We might not realize the theoretical consciousness gradually became our practical consciousness throughout the practices, and it is even more speedy when Guru’s teachings’ topics are all focused on our real lives. For example, for reading the article about we should not wear tight jeans which reveal implicitly the demon’s characteristics, we gradually change our behavior and finally leading to our action of not touching that kind of fashion again in our lives. Thus the theoretical consciousness has become the practical consciousness already. Then it is really obvious that the Buddhist are processing to be more bright and energetic while practicing Dharma diligently because in their mind, the practical consciousness system has been changed and formed positively. I am happy to praise Guru’s wisdom, his virtue and Bodhicitta for giving us and the sentient being the chance of not only learning Dharma but also improving ourselves in many ways.

I sincerely thank you for your beneficial articles.

May all sentient beings to achieve the happiness of Buddha’s nature.

    Om Mani Padme Hum.

    Om. Shri.    Gurubhyo namaha.

I am delighted to read this  article. My  friend during his morning walking time, noticed some down trodden  people living in a thatched cottages, with starving stomach, and their children with poor clothings etc. Which reflected poverty ! It is great he really sympathiese with them  because of being a Buddhist and reading articles and inspired by Guruji’s teachings in  This is a good and right thought known as  ‘ ASPIRATION Bhodhicitta ‘ ! . If my friend visited them after seeing them in such a condition and helped them by giving some sort of alms ( remember the precept DANA) by way of giving some food,  money to by clothes heart would have jumped joy from it’s bottom.! This is known as ,’ ACTION  BHODHICITTA’.

Guruji stresses thrugth his teachings .both Aspiration bhodhicitta and Action Bhodhicitta. Hence, it is my aspirations too that become a  nodal center for both not merely generating, poets of imagination who could write vividly  by play of words by imagination. Buddha  indeed shows love towards a scavenger as we notice an example in hi life time.  We need social workers who are doing practical .Services to the  Down trodden  people.!

Hence, my suggestion is that to hold outreach campaign in slum areas where such poor people live and give alms to uplift them giving health education etc. Which is Action Bhodhicitta and pleases Buddha  more than generating  aspiration Bhodhicitta.!
